Whole house humidifier..........?
Want to get a a Honeywell whole house humidifier but the father in law said that they are honeywell humidifier bad because mold and bacteria build up in your ducting?? Is this true?? He said to get a larger portable one for the first floor area and just use the smaller ones for the bedrooms?? Any educated/qualified answers are appreciated!! Thanks

How to switch my central heating/ AC unit thermostat from AC to heat?
Okay, we installed a thermostat last winter & it heated the house fine. When the summer came, the AC would not blow cold air, it just blew hot air. I called my friends husband & he said the thermostat only works for heat or AC, either one at a time & that he had to "switch" it from heat to AC. After he came over & spend 5 mins. "switching" it over the AC worked perfectly but the heat wouldn't blow hot air, just cool air.. which honeywell warm mist humidifier was fine b/c it was summer time. Now we are back in the winter weather & I dont know how to "switch" from AC to heat. So my friend isn't married to the guy that came over &"fixed" it last time & Im not sure what to do!?! It is a Honeywell Non-programmable thermostat RTH5100B & I guess it only supports either heat or air, one at a time. I did notice that the guy that "fixed" it last time took the face off the thermostat. Does anyone know how I might can try to switch this from cool air to heat? Its going to be a very cold night tonight & it would be nice to be able to be warm in the morning! Thx!!Okay, took the "face" off the thermostat & I do not see anything that says heat or AC. I do see wires & I will tell u what color they are & where they are connected.Red wire connected to RcYellow connected to YOrange wire connected to WGreen wire connected to GThe blue wire & white wire are not connected to anything & there are 2 outlets with nothing connected to them & they say R & not used.

Need Professional Advice..Humidifier Type Choice For Heat Pump Electrical Heating Unit? Bypass or True Steam?
I've had a few professionals in and have been given two options for a humidifier system for my home...First off, both my wife and daughter have eczema and our current humidifier is so old that it wasnt working at all for the past 5 years nor was it worth fixing (plus the professionals told me it was connected to the return and not the supply which is not the way it is supposed to be). So, I was given the option of a honeywell bypass humidifier and a truesteam humidifier (links are below). The true steam is about twice the cost installed (I need to have it installed because this is way over my head for home repairs). I have been told everything from that it doesnt matter which one to get to that one professional wouldnt even honeywell home humidifiers install the bypass in my type of home/heating unit (trying to push me toward the truesteam). Obviously from an outsider's perspective a set level of humidity is a set level of humidity. Setting at 40% is the same with one unit or the other. At the same time, I want my wife and daughter to be the most comfortable and if spending the extra money is worth it, then I will consider the truesteam more closely. Right now I have had a broken humidifier for the last 5 years that has been hooked to the return instead of the supply so I see the bypass as a possible huge improvement. However I've also been told by contractors that if you go with the bypass the results are minimal at best and to achieve true home comfort get the truesteam. Like I said, I will if it's worth it I will consider the truesteam but if I can save the cost for the same effect given my current situation, then I would like to go with the cheaper bypass one. Oh and by the way, from an energy saving standpoint, our water is paid through our complex so the difference in water by using the bypass model will not directly impact our bill in any major way whereas the truesteam may cause a significant rise in energy cost due to the electrical heater element. Why is our laminate floor cupping?
Did our new humidifier cause our laminate floor to cup?We installed a TrafficMaster glueless laminate floor in our kitchen in Sept 09 - we made sure to allow 1/2" gap along the wall. This past weekend we installed a whole house steam humidifier and set the humidity control to 40%. Before we installed the humidifier, the humidity level in the house was usually around 20%. Before we installed the flooring, we did let it acclimate for about a week. When we came home from work honeywell whole house humidifier today, we found a portion of the floor "cupping". We lowered the humidity level to 35%. My questions are:1) Do you think the new humidifier caused the floor to cup?2) We placed a lot of weight on the cupped area - do you think this will help correct it? 3) If the weight won't help, what are our options to correct this? The house is on a slab. On top of the slab is the old floor (sheet linoleum), on top of that is a vapor-moisture barrier (the red plastic with the little styrofoam beads). I really don't know what the temperature of the floor was when it was laid - it was Labor Day weekend in Kentucky. The average outdoor temperature that time of year is about 85*. Our a/c does not dehumidify like it should, so the indoor humidity at that time was probably about 60%.We sealed the seams of the underlayment. Is there any chance this is a manufacturer's defect?We are not relying on the humidistat only to monitor the humidity level. We have a Honeywell programmable tstat that measures the humidity level in the house.

Change default setting (68 degrees) of Honeywell thermostat?
