The unit seems to do a reasonable job at humidifying a 1300 square feet apartment. The tanks are easy to fill, and the controls are easy to operate.

As another reviewer noted, the parts were not designed to fit snuggly, so the unit will occasionally start rattling very loudly. Shifting one of the tanks will usually solve that for a few hours or more, but it’s no fun when it wakes you up at night to do that. Otherwise, the device is reasonably quiet, especially on the lower fan settings.

The most surprising thing about this humidifier is the lack of a tank-empty indicator. This unit has a total of 10 LED indicators on the top, including five just to show the selected humidity level. It does have a float which cuts power to the fan when the tanks are empty, but no indication of that is given. The only way to figure out when you need to refill it is if you use the ionizer function: if you do that, you’ll notice the blue indicator for the ionizer is lit but the fan is silent; that only happens when the tanks are empty. Yes, figuring out when to fill the tanks requires subtle detective work.

Considering most humidifiers costing half as much have a tank-empty indicator, it amazes me the manufacturer chose to save a few cents by eliminating this critical feature.

January 2010 update: Due to the poor fit of the parts, one of the two tanks doesn’t latch into the water valve, and so it doesn’t empty unless the other tank is removed. This makes the unit effectively an oversized 5.5 gallon one, instead of 11 gallon.

Want to get a a Honeywell whole house humidifier but the father in law said that they are honeywell humidifier bad because mold and bacteria build up in your ducting?? Is this true?? He said to get a larger portable one for the first floor area and just use the smaller ones for the bedrooms?? Any educated/qualified answers are appreciated!! Thanks

I bought this humidifier at the beginning of winter.It has been one of the best humidifier purchases I’ve made. It’s been going strong for months. We only turn it off when we add more water which we only have to do once a day even though it’s running on high all the time when the weather is very cold and the furnace is kicking on frequently, drying the air.

I have asthma and need a moist climate. My son gets bloody nose and I get dry skin in dry air so we have used many humidifiers. This is my favorite so far. It is inexpensive and easy to fill – we used to have to use the faucet in the tub to fill our Holmes tank. The Vicks tank is built so that you can fill it at the bathroom sink. It’s lightweight to carry and doesn’t drip water when you turn it over to put it back on the base.

We’re finding that we’re going through filters at a rate of about 1 every month or two although the filters were supposed to last only one month, we’re getting longer use and no mold that we can see so far. Rust like looking stuff, hard water but no mold.

I recommend this humidifier. It’s even cute to look at with rounded edges.


Honeywell Electric Furnace issue?
Okay, I may be crazy, but this little scenario has been happening in the morning for the past two days. So, I turn my furnace thermostat control to auto and keep it on heat. In the morning I get up and the switch on the side has gone from heat, past off, all the way to honeywell cool mist humidifier cool. I did not manually change it. Another night I set the control to cool, only to get up in the early morning to switch it to off. I wake up a few hours later and it has been turned on again to the cool setting. I once again did not manually change it back to the cool setting after I had turned it off. Another time, in the evening I had the heat on and the temp setting to about 75 degrees. I came out of my bedroom since it was blazing hot and saw that the thermostat had been moved up to 90 degrees-did not manually change it. What is going on here? There has to be a logical explanation for this.

How to switch my central heating/ AC unit thermostat from AC to heat?
Okay, we installed a thermostat last winter & it heated the house fine. When the summer came, the AC would not blow cold air, it just blew hot air. I called my friends husband & he said the thermostat only works for heat or AC, either one at a time & that he had to "switch" it from heat to AC. After he came over & spend 5 mins. "switching" it over the AC worked perfectly but the heat wouldn't blow hot air, just cool air.. which honeywell warm mist humidifier was fine b/c it was summer time. Now we are back in the winter weather & I dont know how to "switch" from AC to heat. So my friend isn't married to the guy that came over &"fixed" it last time & Im not sure what to do!?! It is a Honeywell Non-programmable thermostat RTH5100B & I guess it only supports either heat or air, one at a time. I did notice that the guy that "fixed" it last time took the face off the thermostat. Does anyone know how I might can try to switch this from cool air to heat? Its going to be a very cold night tonight & it would be nice to be able to be warm in the morning! Thx!!Okay, took the "face" off the thermostat & I do not see anything that says heat or AC. Need Professional Advice..Humidifier Type Choice For Heat Pump Electrical Heating Unit? Bypass or True Steam?
I've had a few professionals in and have been given two options for a humidifier system for my home...First off, both my wife and daughter have eczema and our current humidifier is so old that it wasnt working at all for the past 5 years nor was it worth fixing (plus the professionals told me it was connected to the return and not the supply which is not the way it is supposed to be). So, I was given the option of a honeywell bypass humidifier and a truesteam humidifier (links are below). The true steam is about twice the cost installed (I need to have it installed because this is way over my head for home repairs). I have been told everything from that it doesnt matter which one to get to that one professional wouldnt even honeywell home humidifiers install the bypass in my type of home/heating unit (trying to push me toward the truesteam). Obviously from an outsider's perspective a set level of humidity is a set level of humidity. Setting at 40% is the same with one unit or the other. At the same time, I want my wife and daughter to be the most comfortable and if spending the extra money is worth it, then I will consider the truesteam more closely. Right now I have had a broken humidifier for the last 5 years that has been hooked to the return instead of the supply so I see the bypass as a possible huge improvement. However I've also been told by contractors that if you go with the bypass the results are minimal at best and to achieve true home comfort get the truesteam. Like I said, I will if it's worth it I will consider the truesteam but if I can save the cost for the same effect given my current situation, then I would like to go with the cheaper bypass one. Oh and by the way, from an energy saving standpoint, our water is paid through our complex so the difference in water by using the bypass model will not directly impact our bill in any major way whereas the truesteam may cause a significant rise in energy cost due to the electrical heater element. Change default setting (68 degrees) of Honeywell thermostat?
